Joly

Graduated at the ENSAD, in 1969 his career started at STEINER: his first success arrived with the sofa SWANY. As an apprentice gaining professional experience at GMC he was in charge of the research office serving the 6 affiliates of the group. In 1981 he created his own agency: Sylvain Joly Design. The French furniture industry immediately recognised the agency’s ability to respond to their needs with models that combined innovation and commerciality. The VIA and the sector’s press confirmed this by describing the agency in such terms as “design for everyone”, “best-sellers design”, “readymade design”….

For 10 years the group Roche-Bobois has relied on the agency for its most important creations.

Today the agency has gained an enviable international reputation and with its 20 craftsmen which includes13 designers, has reached a world wide market. By size, fame and vast diversity of creations it is the most important European agency in the branch, counting in its portfolio some “best sellers” sold in several tens of thousands in units.

The spirit of the agency is epitomised by Sylvain Joly himself: “the pride of a designer is to bring a product to success rather than pursuing fame simply by conceiving it”.
